Growing up, I always fantasized about running away from Oklahoma and going to college in Los Angeles or New York, where I could meet more people who were like me. But after the last few years, I’m glad I stayed. Living here is an uphill battle, but it’s my home and I don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t found my community of rurally raised transgender people working to make each others’s lives better. Two years ago, I wasn’t even sure if I would ever meet another trans person. I felt so alone. Today, I have stumbled across love, family, and a sense of belonging I never thought I would find.
