So, the story goes like this: A 23-year-old piano prodigy from Texas won the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow in 1958. The problem? It was during the Cold War, and obviously people weren't on the friendliest of terms. But him winning kind of changed things, and even though they weren't sure if an American should take home the grand prize, an eight-minute standing ovation made the judges realize he was the only one who deserved to get it, bringing some sort of peace between two nations that really needed it. (Don't worry, history lesson is now adjourned.) nike 11 retro When I was a fairly little kid, like between six and nine years old, my parents gave me a tape recorder for my birthday or Christmas. That experience of being able to record myself and play it back and create things was definitely a huge coming of age experience. I think too, hearing Jimi Hendrix for the first time was a really huge thing for me. I was an early teen and there was something about that music that touched on some very deep territory. I was a little bit older like 14 and heard Acid House for the first time and I ran over to my cousin’s house and I was like "We have to figure out how to make this music." I think the first concert I ever went to, I saw Siouxsie and the Banshees and that totally blew me away.Instagram contentView on InstagramTVHow would you describe your music now?GRR: nike 11 retro are sure to celebrate. And while Lizzie may no longer be the embodiment of Limited Too, early-2000sfashion statements nike 11 retro I think that definitely connects back to me hearing Hendrix for the first time because I had that experience of hearing that music for the first time and it really touching something deep inside me, and then when I started to talk, to other people who were into music, about it I kind of quickly understood that what it touched if me was different than what it touched in them. And what was getting touched in me was that something about the way that that music unfolded and told its story, made me feel very at peace with myself. When I was in the sort-of world that that music created, I felt ok about who I was and who I was made sense. And I think that if I was to analyze that, I think that to some degree that Jimi Hendrix's music has a very high degree of abstraction because of its use of really complex timbral compositional devices, and you know a number of other things. So that in that plain of abstraction that that music created I was able to experience fluidity around gender that was more consistent with what my experience was. I definitely think that that's a big part of the music that I’ve created is to try to use sound as a way of creating a landscape. And so making music I think, for me was a way to stay in that landscape. So when I started to take music more seriously what became meaningful for me was to create that for other people… a sonic landscape in which whatever was going on for somebody could be given space and room and a place to unpack itself, and be itself.TV nike 11 retro
