Now â or May 20th, to be exact â Krewella is back with a brand new EP, titledAmmunition kd 13 all white workers without paid sick leave and those living paycheck to paycheck kd 13 all white to call for an immediate strike among shirtwaist makers. The resulting strike would come to be known as the Uprising of the 20,000, and it would forever change the standards of working conditions in New York. In addition to cramped quarters and unsafe working conditions, the young, mostly teenage, immigrant women were protesting a host of oppressive practices, from managers who would deduct the cost of electricity and sewing supplies from workersâ paychecks to sexual harassment on the floor and unrealistic work outputs. The strike inspired a fierce backlash from factory owners, police, and politicians, but images of these defiant young women being beaten up, arrested, and jailed for demanding basic rights in the workplace kept their strike in the news for months. Prominent women soon came to their aid. At a time when women werenât even allowed to vote, the strike also changed the perception of these women in their community: For decades, union leaders had considered young women not worth organizing, as they would abandon the fight once they got married and left the workforce.
