Mimi was an early storyteller. She recounts writing songs in her diary at the age of 13 about school day melodramas. "Being at school, there's always so much going on. "I think that's a big part of my songwriting, just connecting to people and kind of like, understanding people. I'm quite emotional. I really care for others," she says. She explains that conversations with friends and strangers will often make their way into her songs, like an archeologist mining her life for artifacts. "When I speak to people, I collect information and when I’m in the studio the next day, I want to do something that relates to that conversation.
