After Donald Trump was elected to the presidency in 2016, I changed my major to political science to study the systems in place in our country that put underprivileged youth at such a disadvantage. I started witnessing a wider trend of injustice against young people in our country — gun violence in schools, climate change destroying our ecosystems, burdensome student-loan debt, racism against black and immigrant youth — and I knew I had to do something about it.
