When politicians and the media talk about the economy, they talk about goods, and growth, and trade deals, and numbers. They talk about something intangible, as though you need a Ph.D. to really understand it. Rather than being a point of discussion, the economy is more often used as a way of shutting discussion down. Think back to debates you’ve had with your parents, or your know-it-all uncle, or some kid in school. “It’s bad for the economy,” they’ll say. It has been the greatest honor of my life to work with them over this last year and to do everything I can to help in their fight to protect the rights of children.
