It's easy to get lofty and romantic when describing the power and purpose of poetry. But the truth is that the poems that stay with you are the ones that make you feel something, that shift the way you think, that give voice to individual and collective experiences and offer a new way to see the world and your own place within it. Ariana's work investigates queer Black personhood in Mexican American spaces, Black relationality and girlhood, loneliness, and care. She holds a B.A. in African Diaspora Studies and Mexican American Studies from UT Austin, an M.F.A. in Poetry from the University of Pittsburgh, and is pursuing an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of North Texas. Ariana is a 2014 national collegiate poetry slam champion and owes much of her practice to Black performance communities led by Black women poets from the South. She has been writing, performing, and teaching poetry for over ten years and is currently represented by YNME Creatives.
