When we started the whole process, I got sent over a lot of different treatments from a bunch of credited videographers. And I hated the treatments. [They were] gimmicky to me — about a girl named Sally at a diner. They may look nice and appealing to the eye, but they don’t capture the emotion of the song. I started [my own] rough treatment to “Sally,” and when I went and researched the pitches and told professionals what I wanted, it was really about unifying people who are outcasts. The whole song is about overcoming negativity, and thriving off of who you are and letting yourself exist as you.
