Respondents reported that assumptions and biases about leadership barriers for Black and Latinx girls can limit their opportunities. Teachers reported that they believed these girls had a lack of confidence, when Black girls actually reported the highest levels of self-confidence of all those surveyed. The report found that in order to truly be supported, Black and Latinx girls need anti-racist, culturally responsive learning environments. They need the support of relatives and of mentors — especially teachers — who look like them.
