I have spent much of my life trying to figure out where I fit in as a Mexican-American woman — more time than I'd like to admit, if we're being honest. For a long time, my primary aim was to prove to people that I was Mexican enough, maybe to compensate for the fact that I was experiencing less and less of the culture firsthand.
