To an extent, yes, it is definitely influenced by the whole nature of cultural appropriation. We sadly live in an era when people can justify their behavior when it comes to cultural appropriation by saying things like "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery," but I think that is just a massive cop-out. To me, respect and acknowledgement of someone's cultural identity is the most sincere form of flattery, not simply imitating them because you think it looks good on you for a day.
