Our current system has made young people feel like we don’t matter, that we aren’t knowledgeable enough to vote, or that voting actually perpetuates a system that harms us. These are myths. Through my work as an organizer, I have learned that one conversation can go a long way. One conversation can turn a nonvoter into a lifetime voter, and when it comes to getting young people to vote, it’s all about listening. Some like to say, half tongue-in-cheek, that most good organizers have two of the following three qualities: charisma, shamelessness, and good looks.
